VGFC Intern Zora Flash sat down with defender Gabe Threadgold to chat about his background, his soccer career, and more.
Gabe, to start the interview off please give us a little background of your soccer history. How you started playing, when, and why?
My soccer career started when I originally lived in Italy for 5 years, while my dad was in the Navy. We came back to the States where I kept playing and eventually played for a select team in Washington. I played for a Premier team for a few years, then went to a team called Seattle United before I eventually went to Sounders Academy throughout middle and high school and then committed to the University of Washington which is where I am at now.
What made you choose Vermont Green?
I picked Vermont Green because of the team culture and what the team stands for with climate change, and other issues. I like how the club is integrating and communicating their message, and also the jerseys are very cool. Overall the club has really good players to practice and play with and has a lot of competition that I like to play with.
What is your best soccer memory?
Probably going to the College Cup my junior year. And also traveling to Paris to play.
Are there any lessons you learned while being a soccer player that applies to your everyday life?
Yeah definitely the saying that goes like, “Whenever one door closes another one opens.” Also just staying humble and dedicated during soccer and everyday life. Moving on and pushing forward is also important. Putting your head down and just getting to work.
If you could go back in time in your soccer career would you? Would you change anything?
