It was a magical night at Virtue Field as Vermont Green FC closed out their season with a 6-1 win against Boston City FC. The sold out, jam-packed crowd braved a lightning delay to witness a night of love, community, and goals as the Green improved to 10-3-1 on the season. Unfortunately, despite a ten-win season, the club will not qualify for playoffs this season.

The usual tempo was present as the Boys in Green roved Virtue Field with confidence and an aggressive attacking mindset. While Boston City FC were able to withstand the advances for 25 minutes, it would open up with a goal from Chris Meyers, sending the eager crowd into a frenzy. From there, the Green would not let up.

In the 40th minute, Vermont would double their lead off the unassuming foot of the joyous Moussa Ndiaye, who looked as surprised as anyone to see it was him that knocked the goal home. A big smile, a happy shrug, and a run over to the adoring fans came shortly after. The Senegalese defender has been a revelation in Vermont, and the Virtue Field faithful could not have been more thrilled to see the Big Mouss-Man get his debut goal on the final day. Vermont would go into the break up 2-0.

After the interval, the goals would continue to break the Green’s way. Felipe D’Agostini blasted in a worldie from a short corner, Nacho Lerech battled his way to knock home a goal from close range, Krioutchenkov flicked home a headed goal from the corner, and Zengue added one more classy one for the road.

It was a beautiful season. One to remember. The Boys in Green closed off the night celebrating with the fans who have pushed them since day one. There was no room in the building to dwell on what we didn’t do, only what we achieved and will achieve. Under the smoke bombs and drums and songs in full voice, the Vermonters celebrated.

This beautiful, defiant state has been through so much this summer. We’re grateful to this community that, despite all they have been through, decided to take this night to celebrate.

Thank you, Vermont. From the bottom of our hearts, we love you. See you soon.
