We hope your holiday weekend is getting off to a great start and wanted to remind you that if you’re looking for something fun to do tomorrow, we are hosting Boston City FC on our home turf for a decisive game in our playoff run. We’d love to have you come out and bring the energy to Virtue to help our players dig deep and get the W!
March to the Match
Saturday, July 2, at 12:30 pm, Vermont Green Football Club is hosting its first annual “March to the Match” supporter parade that will walk, bike, skip, dance, and roll its way from UVM’s Redstone Green to Virtue Field.
The march is a celebration of sustainable and inclusive transportation solutions that our partners offer, from Green Mountain Transit’s free fare bus to CATMA’s Commuter Solutions Tool.
We would love for you to join us in this fun-filled parade, featuring chants, songs, flag and scarf-waving, and uplifting revelry in the spirit of the beautiful game!
The “March to the Match” will be a fun way to get to know fellow supporters, learn more about the club’s mission to advance environmental justice, meet partner organizations, and get fired up for the match!
Schedule
- 12:30 pm: Arrive at UVM’s Redstone Campus Green in front of Redstone Hall.
- 12:30-12:50 pm: Gather with VGFC staff, community partners, and supporters to prepare for the march. The Green Mountain Bhoys have dropped a new chant for the game and will lead chanting instructions and practice.
- 12:50 pm: VGFC leadership will provide a brief overview of what the club is doing to address its carbon footprint and ideas for how fans can access cleaner and cheaper transportation options in their daily lives.
- 12:55 pm: Marchers depart for the 10-minute walk to Virtue Field.
- 1:10 pm: Enter the field and enjoy local food and drink, meet vendors and partners, play yard games, and rejoice in a day of local footy!
- 2 pm: Kickoff
Parking
If you have to drive to the match, that is ok! We would still love to have you join the march to enjoy a fun experience, meet fellow VGFC supporters, and support club efforts to promote sustainable transportation. Free parking is available at the Gutterson Field House parking lot and it is about a 10-12 minute walk to Redstone Hall.
Green Out Virtue
We encourage supporters to wear their favorite VGFC attire or an article of green clothing to paint Virtue stadium “Vermont Green.” We will be taking photos and videos of fans to show our community what “Vermont Green” looks and feels like.
Community Spotlight: CATMA
VGFC is partnering with CATMA this season and beyond to help us learn the best ways to support our fans in reducing transportation costs, making commuting more convenient, and reducing the pollution that drives climate change. CATMA Executive Director Sandy Thibault will speak to the crowd at halftime, promoting sustainable transportation solutions available to the public. CATMA will also table at the game to provide more information and link fans with resources.
We hope you’ll join us for the “March to the Match” and enjoy being part of another moment in VGFC history.
