Epping, NH, May 22, 2022 – Vermont Green FC suffered a 1-0 loss to Seacoast United on Sunday, its first defeat of 2022.

The heat played a factor in the match. The temperatures hovered in the mid-80s throughout, necessitating hydration breaks midway through each half. Several players and even the referee had to leave the game because of cramps.

“Obviously difficult conditions for both teams certainly affected the game. A little disappointed we were not able to create more danger, it felt like there was space out there to do that, but it didn’t happen. The guys worked hard and probably deserved a point, but they put one across the line and we didn’t. Back at it this week.” said Vermont Green FC head coach Adam Pfeifer.

Vermont Green FC’s best scoring opportunity came from Rodrigo Ferreira’s header off a corner kick at 62′.

Seacoast United’s Ethan Taylor scored the only goal of the match at 76′.

“We just thought it was a tough result. As a group, we thought we deserved a draw, but it’s always tough to come on the road, especially with conditions like this with the heat,” said goalkeeper Nate Silveira. “There’s plenty of time to build chemistry. We’ll get back out in training and keep looking forward.”

Vermont Green FC returns to Burlington to play their historic home opener on May 28 at 2pm. Season and single match tickets are available now.

“We can’t wait for all the fans to be at Virtue Field. It’s going to be a magical day for the Club,” Silveira said.
