Burlington, Vt., December 12, 2023 – Today, US Soccer announced Vermont Green Football Club has qualified for the 2024 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The club will enter in the tournament’s first round on March 19-21.
Beginning in 1913, the US Open Cup is the oldest soccer competition in the United States. The tournament is a single elimination contest, and includes clubs from every level of the American soccer pyramid—from Major League Soccer (MLS) all the way down to amateur and semi-professional teams. Over 100 clubs will compete in 2024.
“Since the inception of Vermont Green FC, qualifying for and participating in the US Open Cup has been an important goal for us.” said Patrick Infurna, cofounder. “As lovers of the game, it’s a privilege to play in such a historic and esteemed tournament, and to have the opportunity to be in the same competition as the nation’s top professional clubs. As we expand the competitions we play in, we can extend our mission to new eyes and ears.”
The first round of the tournament will consist of only amateur clubs, matched up by region. The draw and hosting information will come at a later date. Professional clubs from the USL Championship and USL League One will enter in the second round. Major League Soccer clubs will enter in the third round.
Houston Dynamo won the 2023 iteration of the US Open Cup, defeating Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami FC in the final in September.
Should Vermont Green FC earn the right to host a first round matchup, tickets will be included for Season Ticket Holders, and individual tickets will be available to non-Season Ticket Holders.
