Vermont Green FC will host the annual Winter Tryout on January 14, 2024 at 1:30pm at Virtue Field in Burlington.

After wrapping up a 13-3-1 season in 2023, the Green are looking to assemble another highly competitive squad. The Winter Tryout offers an opportunity for aspiring players from Vermont and the surrounding region to showcase their talent and potentially secure a spot in the 2024 roster.

Two-year midfielders Charlie Adams and Jack Cloherty were both discovered through the Winter Tryout in 2022, and played an important roles for the Green in ’22 and ’23.

“The Winter Tryout is an important opportunity for us to look the local talent, as we start to build a squad for the 2024 season,” said Vermont Green sporting director, Adam Pfeifer.

Vermont Green’s qualification for the US Open Cup means the 2024 season will start significantly earlier than it did in the club’s first two seasons. The US Open Cup first round match will be between March 19th and 21st, about six weeks before the USL League Two season opener in mid May.

“Everything we do as a club is to promote environmental justice,” said club co-founder, Patrick Infurna. “The tryout tees say ‘Climate Action Now’ which is obviously an important message that the club is trying to reiterate in everything we do. They also have the number ‘1.5’ on the back. Scientists agree that if global warming isn’t halted to 1.5 degrees Celsius, that we’re going to be dealing with really irreparable damage, things we’re just not going to be able to reverse. So for us, it’s an opportunity to bring awareness to the gravity of the moment.”
