Adam Pfeifer’s men took to the road on Wednesday looking for all three points against AC Connecticut, and they did so convincingly. The Vermonters scored early and often, with the first coming off the head of Matthew Goncalves in the seventh minute. After the hosts equalized against the run of play, Jake Ashford and Diba Nwegbo reasserted the Green in front within two minutes. Shortly after, Norwich, VT native Charlie Adams would both earn and score his penalty. Matthew Goncalves added another penalty goal before the break.
The second half saw the Green let off the gas slightly, allowing for Connecticut to eventually score four goals to Vermont’s six, two of which came in the last moments of the match. Eythor Bjørgolfsson added the final goal for Vermont, rising up and heading in a cross from Owen O’Malley. The game ended 6-4, but the Vermonters were comfortably ahead and in control for the entire match.
In a quick turnaround, Vermont Green FC travel to historic Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, MA on Saturday to face Western Mass Pioneers. The Pioneers are a perennial powerhouse in the northeast, currently on a five game winning streak. Adam Pfeifer’s side will look to make a statement and continue the push towards playoff contention with a good result in Massachusetts.

Notes from Hartford:
- “It always feels great to score especially when it puts the team back ahead. As a whole we definitely could have played better, got a bit relaxed during the game when we shouldn’t have but at the end of the day we take the 3 points. It was great to see us score so many, it’s going to be useful in the future knowing we can score like that. Looking forward to continuing this strong run of play this weekend against Western Mass.” said Jake Ashford.
- Head Coach Adam Pfeifer was brief, but clear in his assessment, “We performed really well for 90 percent of the match. We need to keep our focus and control all 90 minutes.”
- “I’m super proud of the team’s performance yesterday to grab 3 points on the road. We went down to Connecticut to do what we do best and the 6 team goals speak for themselves!” added Matthew Goncalves after scoring a brace.
- Diba Nwegbo continued his scoring streak, adding his fifth of the season. Eythor Bjørgolfsson also has a goal a game from the last two, making it four in total for the Norwegian striker.
- Charlie Adams earned his first start of the USL League 2 season, the Vermonter had a strong outing with a penalty earned and a goal to his name.
- Noah Elmore of Berlin, VT also made his debut, entering the match in the 70th minute for Owen O’Malley.
