Vermont Green FC made the 2023 home opener a special occasion for all 2,500 fans last night by collecting all three points with three stellar goals from Zach Zengue, Gevork Diarbian, and Nacho Lerech.
After starting the match with intensity, Zach Zengue was the first to find the back of the net with a delicious strike from 20 yards out. When the ball hit the back of the net, the attacker sprinted towards the supporters in celebration and appreciation for the Virtue Field faithful. With two highlight-reel goals in two matches, Zengue is quickly making a name for himself in Burlington and beyond.
Both wingers β Diarbian and Tellez β made dazzling runs, and Denis Krioutchenkov was able to hit post but the home team was unable to convert. The first half ended with the Green holding a 1-0 lead.Β
Coach Pfeifer made two changes at the start of the second half, bringing on Charlie Adams and Nacho Lerech, as Vermont pushed for more goals.
In the 53rd minute, Pfeiferβs tactical adjustment paid off when Adams played a cross into the area that Lerech dummied for Diarbian to slot into the back of the net. Diarbian showed his pace and skill all night, and the sellout crowd was delighted to see him open his goalscoring account with the Green.
Six minutes later, Diarbian again sliced through the Albany defense and found Nacho Lerech with a perfectly weighted through ball. Lerech rounded the keeper to make it 3-0 Vermont. The former UVM man is no stranger to scoring at Virtue Field, having led the Catamounts in scoring in 2021.
The Green are off to a flying start, with two 3-0 victories to open the 2023 season. The next match will be a friendly vs CS Mont-Royal Outremont on Wednesday May 31st at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now!
