WTFATC and Vermont Green FC teamed up to release 10 vintage flannel shirts, each re-worked with various VGFC patches.
“When VGFC invited me to experiment with their new badge, I knew the project had to center around sustainability. With breathless kit releases and reflexive merch drops saturating and consuming the American soccer zeitgeist, it felt like an opportunity to do something different, something smaller, more special, that better connected with founding supporters.
Flannel, a true staple of the north, felt like something fun to work with. Maybe it felt a little obvious to me, a Midwesterner.
We sourced 10 incredible flannels from vintage shops around the Lower East Side and kept our local tailor busy sewing on various VGFC badges, as well as ’embroidered’ #10s on the back—giving them a whole new life as a soccer fan in Vermont.
We love VGFC’s plan to donate unused season tickets to the local community, so including a season ticket with each felt like a cool way for anyone lucky enough to land one of the shirts to support from anywhere in the world.
The season ticket QR cards were printed on wood in Brooklyn, and the carabiner mechanism was engineered by an embroiderer in the Garment District. Truly a team effort.
My hope is that this project is bigger than the 10 founding supporters’ flannels. I hope other VGFC supporters make their own, and add to them over the years as the club collects titles, accolades and experiences.”
