LAWRENCE, MA, May 16, 2022 – Powered by an early brace from Eythor Bjørgolfsson and a goal apiece from Diba Nwegbo and Jake Ashford, Vermont Green FC shutout Boston City FC 4-0 on Sunday, May, 15 earning a win in the first-ever match in the club’s history.

“We’ve only really had one session with this group. They showed their experience and class today by going out, staying organized, and getting a great result on the road. The players really took ownership of the match and showed positive signs out of the gate. A fantastic first match.” said Head Coach and Sporting Director Adam Pfeifer.

Vermont Green opened the scoring on a Bjørgolfsson penalty kick in the 42’ after being fouled in the area.

Seven minutes after that, Bjørgolfsson struck again to double the lead.

Just two minutes later Diba Nwegbo tallied the third goal of the night.

”It’s an unbelievable feeling to be a part of such a historic moment for Vermont Green FC. It was truly an amazing collective performance by all the lads despite barely having trained with each other, which just shows how scary this team will be going forward this season. The guys battled their hearts out and I’m extremely proud of how everyone kept their head in the game despite the circumstances on the pitch. Also very delighted to have a brace on the scoresheet today and ultimately score the first two goals in VGFC history!” said Vermont Green FC forward Eythor Bjørgolfsson.

Jake Ashford finished the scoring by chesting in a set piece in the 77th minute.

After the first win in club history, the traveling fans took to the pitch to greet their club and pose for a photo.

“To see fans that traveled from Vermont or around the region was an incredible sight, and a testament to the culture we’re trying to build at the club. Thanks to all of them for their support” said Pfeifer.

Vermont Green travels to Epping, NH to face the Seacoast United Phantoms on May 22 before returning to Burlington to play their historic home opener on May 28. Season and single match tickets are available now.
