Vermont Green FC announced today the signing of Siad Haji for the 2024 USL League Two season. The 24-year-old midfielder is a member of the Somalia national team and former United States youth international. Haji was the second overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes, where he spent three seasons.

“Siad Haji is a dynamic player that will bring a lot to the table here in Vermont.” said Head Coach & Sporting Director Adam Pfeifer. “His quality and his experience on the field, on top of his unique ties to our local community, will make him a leader in the squad and a key part of achieving our goals in 2024.”

The Kenya-born, Somalia international midfielder grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire and  played with multiple youth and club teams, including Burlington-based Juba Star FC. In his collegiate career, he played one season at New England College before transferring to Virginia Commonwealth, where he became a highly touted professional prospect. Haji was named Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year and All-Atlantic 10 First Team, spurring him to sign a Generation Adidas contract after his junior season.

Haji with the Somalia National Team

After three seasons in Major League Soccer, Haji spent the 2023 season with FC Tulsa of USL Championship. He is comfortable playing through the center of the midfield and on the wing, creating and scoring goals with both feet.

Haji was a part of the United States youth national team system from 2013 to 2016. In 2020, he accepted his first call-up to a Somalia national team camp, making his debut in 2022 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match. He will be the first Vermont Green FC player with first team appearances in Major League Soccer as well as the first Vermont Green FC player with senior international caps.
