Vermont Green FC announced today that the club’s 2025 home opener will be held on Saturday, May 24th at 2:00pm against Ligue1 Québec champions FC Laval. The match will be the second edition of The Maple Cup, the annual single-match cup contest—hosted in Burlington—played between the Green and the reigning Ligue1 Quebec champions. The Maple Cup is separate from the USL League Two schedule, which will be announced later in February.

“We’re so thrilled to host The Maple Cup as our home opener in 2025, and to kick off another incredible summer with our fans at Virtue Field.” said Patrick Infurna, Vermont Green FC co-founder. “Now more than ever, we’re eager to celebrate our friendship with our northern neighbors through the game of soccer, upholding the spirit of competition and collaboration that is so important to our club’s values.”

FC Laval is a semi-professional club from Laval, Québec. The club’s senior men’s team compete in Ligue1Québec, the regionalized third tier of professional soccer in Canada where they were crowned champions in August 2024. With their title, FC Laval qualified to compete in the 2025 Canadian Championship. Vermont Green FC hosted FC Laval’s women’s team for the Inaugural Women’s Exhibition match in June 2024.

Vermont Green FC won the first annual Maple Cup last summer.

“We’re very excited to take part in this year’s Maple Cup. Our club visited Vermont Green with our women’s team last summer and it was an incredible experience. We are looking forward to competing against this talented men’s team and to hopefully put on a great show for those wonderful Vermont Green fans!” said Amro Radwan, FC Laval Sporting Director.

The winner of the match will lift The Maple Cup Trophy, designed in 2024 by D’Aversa Furniture and made from ambrosia maple wood sourced in Vermont.

Vermont Green FC won the inaugural Maple Cup against 2023 Ligue1 Québec champions CS Saint-Laurent by the score of 5-0, and will look to defend the Cup in May.

Tickets to the season-opening Maple Cup are on sale now. The match is included in the 2025 Season Ticket. Single match tickets for the full USL League Two season and other matches will be available in late February.
