Vermont Green FC has announced two Women’s Exhibition Matches during the 2025 summer season. The matches will be held at Virtue Field on June 11 at 7pm vs Flower City 1872, and June 14 at 6pm vs AS Blainville. World Cup Winner Sam Mewis will return to lead the team as head coach.

“The Inaugural Women’s Exhibition Match in 2024 was an unforgettable experience for our club, community, and team, but it was just the beginning of our commitment to the women’s game,” said Sporting Director Adam Pfeifer. “We’re very happy to be doubling our training and match experience for the women’s squad in 2025 as we continue to sustainably build our infrastructure with the goal of a permanent women’s team playing in a league as soon as possible.”

Vermont Green FC will once again be coached by World Cup Winner Sam Mewis, who has lived in the Burlington area since she retired from playing the game in 2023. Mewis coached the Inaugural Women’s Exhibition Match in 2024, when the Green defeated FC Laval 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 finish in regulation time.

“Coaching with Vermont Green last summer was one of the highlights of my year. I am so happy to be back with the club this season and I can’t wait to offer my perspective and experience playing professional soccer all over the world,” said Mewis. “Vermont Green is made up of an incredibly thoughtful and intentional group of people who are actively growing the soccer scene here in Vermont. The fans of this club have blown me away with their support, engagement, and passion. With two games this summer and an entire week of training, we will set our players up for success both with us and beyond, and we’ll set the stage for Vermont Green Women to grow into something even greater. I’m already counting down the days until June…Up the Green!”

Vermont Green FC’s first opponent on Wednesday, June 11 will be Flower City 1872. The Rochester, New York-based club will compete in USL W League in 2025 after playing in United Women’s Soccer (UWS) in 2024.

On Saturday, June 14, the Green will face A.S. Blaineville, a club from the Montreal suburb that shares their name. The club’s senior women’s team has been competing in Ligue1 Quebec Féminine since the league’s foundation in 2018, winning three consecutive championships from 2020 to 2022.

The full Vermont Green FC roster and staff for the Women’s Exhibition Matches will be announced when training camp convenes in June.
