This was a season we will forever remember, thanks in no small part to your generosity and support of our mission to make our games financially accessible and socially inclusive. With your help, we were able to provide hundreds of free tickets to youth and families who work hard to make ends meet on inadequate wages.
The Spread-the-Love ticket was intended to recognize that not everyone in our community has the financial means to come to a Vermont Green FC match and that systemic inequities play a role in this. Those of us with the financial means, but perhaps not the time to attend every game, can pay forward our good fortune, support the club in a mutually beneficial manner, and at the same time support our community. By purchasing this ticket, you joined us in acknowledging that being financially constrained is nothing to be ashamed of or blamed for. Instead, our club acknowledges social inequities affect socio-economics. And because these inequities exist, we are committed to finding solutions to address them.
The pandemic proved to be an especially financially difficult time for many families, coupled with the hardships of limited opportunities to spend time together, in person, with our loved ones. With your help, we were able to respond to this moment with love. Not just for those we know and already care for, but for strangers and for a community you may have never even visited. You sent a message of hope and proved the spirit of generosity, kindness, and compassion is still very much alive.
The positive impact of your contribution grew throughout the season as we exceeded our attendance record every game – except a rainy weekday game where 800 hardy supporters braved the weather – until we maxed out our stadium capacity at our final match with 2,500 fans! And those fans came from all walks of our community and represented a diverse scope of people and cultures that reside in Vermont. The beautiful game transcends our polarizing times and you supported our vision for bringing people together around the unifying spirit of football.
This is just the beginning, and we are grateful for your support of our mission to use football as a catalyst for a more environmentally sustainable and socially just world.
Sincerely,
The Vermont Green FC team
We’re excited to offer Spread-the-Love tickets again in 2023. Each Spread-the-Love Season Ticket purchase includes one season ticket donated to a local community organization and two single match tickets for you to attend one home game of your choice.
Spread-the-Love Letters:
βIt was very inclusive. Some people from our community would not have been able to afford tickets, despite working hard to support their families and were able to come and support the club and players. Our adults were very motivated to come to spend time together, something we work hard to do as a community, but is not always easy to do. Our youth are busy with school and work and would have found it challenging to afford tickets for every game without this option. The Spread the Love season ticket made it accessible for many people to watch the beautiful game together.β -Noor Bulle, Assistant Manager, Juba Star FC
βIt was exciting when they got a goal and everyone in the stands was really loud. It was fun seeing the players move on the field.β -Maryan, King Street Center Student
βVGFC invited the three King Street girls accompanying me to play in a half-time event. They were so thrilled. Giving these girls such an opportunity was empowering. I could see how much it meant to them.β -Lini, King Street Center Mentor
βThe interactions between teens and the players they recognized from King Street Center were memorable moments. Players greeted them on the field after games and signed autographs. I saw that the teens really lit up when the players would remember who they were.β -King Street Center Staff Member
βIt was fun watching them play. I am a soccer player and I want to go to college and play soccer and have the experience of being on the field playing and being cheered on.β -Batula, King Street Center Student
βMy experience during the game was very positive to bring the youth down and enjoy the sport they all love. One of the memorable moments for me was seeing the community come out and support Vermont Green FC. It is an awesome feeling when you can talk to a player after a game and have that connection with them. Overall, it was a great feeling and it reminded me of my home country. I appreciate that the club is gathering and empowering youth to succeed like the players.β -Samuel Dingba, Youth Program Coordinator & Case Manager, AALV
βKing Street is proud to be one of VGFC’s partners. I love the club’s mission and focus to bring awareness to how we can become more environmentally sustainable and socially just in the world. I enjoyed bringing kids and watching their excitement and engagement in the game. The car ride home was filled with conversations about the players and their skill levels. A few of the kids have aspirations of playing college soccer, so for them watching these players was inspirational.β -Gabe Tufo Strouse, King Street Center Staff
“VGFC has brought a piece of a culture that was missing in Burlington.” -Yuol, King Street Center Staff
