Vermont Green FC defeated Flower City 1872 4-0 on Wednesday in front of 2,500 fans at Virtue Field. Sophie Reale, Olivia Borgen, Sophia Lowenberg, and Violet Rademacher were the goalscorers, and Olivia Shippee kept a clean sheet.
Sam Mewis starting group consisted of Shippee in goal, with UVM’s Bridget Kennedy, Violet Rademacher, Sophia Lowenberg, and the captain Olivia White starting across the backline. In the midfield, Olivia Borgen and Molly Martin flanked Erin Fleury in the middle of the park. The front three were Neve Renwick, Sophie Reale, and Ava McNeil.
The Green started the match with a heavy emphasis in the attack, and had glimpses of danger in the opening 15 minutes. In the 21st minute, Sophie Reale danced her way from the left wing, completing a brilliant individual effort by beating the keeper at the near post.
The Green led 1-0 at half time.
After the break, the Vermonters didn’t slow their efforts, utilizing multiple substitutes to keep fresh legs on the pitch.
In the 55th minute, Olivia Borgen brought down a cross from Ava McNeil and tucked it away from another tight angle, extending the lead to 2-0.
Moments later, Sophia Lowenberg scored one of the most phenomenal goals in the history of the club, placing a ball from 30+ yards into the top right corner—an absolute treat for the sold out crowd—to make it 3-0 to the Green.
For good measure, Violet Rademacher rose to meet a Georgina Clarke corner kick and headed the ball past the Flower City keeper.
The match ended 4-0 to the Green. Sam Mewis’ team will now begin preparations for Saturday night’s clash with AS Blainville in the second and final Women’s Exhibition Match of 2025.
