Vermont Green FC finished the 2025 Women’s Week with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over AS Blainville. Erin Flurey scored both goals for the Green in front of 2,500 fans at Virtue Field. Head Coach Sam Mewis and the women’s team remain perfect with three wins in three matches.

Olivia “Ship” Shippee started in goal for the Green, with Victoria Laino, Violet Rademacher, Sophia Lowenberg, and Georgina Clarke starting across the back line. In the center, two of Wednesday’s goalscorers Olivia Borgen and Sophie Reale started the match with Molly Martin alongside them. Erin Flurey, Neve Renwick, and Ava McNeil led the line.

Vermont Green FC looked to build on Wednesday’s high-flying win with early pressure, earning several chances on goal through Neve Renwick and co. Despite every effort, the highly organized Blainville defense held strong, pushing the Vermont attack out wide and standing firm on multiple chances.

In the 26th minute, Blainville’s Justine Lalande broke down the right wing on the counterattack and laid a perfect ball across the box for Éliane Alvaro to finish in style.

After the early wound, Sam Mewis’ players huddled in front of their own net, devised their plan, and the Virtue Field faithful roared them back into action.

The Green found their footing, but the first half ended 1-0 to the Canadian visitors.

After the break and some tactical revisions, the Green set out to find their equalizer.

In the 63rd minute, Georgina Clarke delivered a corner kick from the Green’s left side, producing a scramble under the feet of Erin Flurey, who battled through the Blainville defense to punch the ball into the back of the net. 1-1.

With the energy shifting to the Vermonters and the crowd amplifying in support, a second goal seemed very possible, and the red-hot Flurey would answer the call in the 76th minute. After a lovely connection between Clarke and Lowenberg, the ball was spread wide to Brina Micheels, where the Plattsburgh-native then fired the ball into the path of Flurey. Flurey took one touch, saw the keeper just slightly off her line, and chipped her shot into the back of the net. A marvelous goal to put the Green in front 2-1.

After taking the lead, Mewis commanded her team to a professional, lead-protecting performance. The final whistle blew, and Vermont Green were the victors.

Ultimately, Vermont Green FC won both of the 2025 Women’s Exhibition Matches. Two sold out crowds, two magical nights. As the club continues efforts to grow the women’s game in Vermont, this week could not have been a better showcase of the competitive talent, and the love for the game in this community.

Vermont Green Football Club is enormously grateful for the talented young athletes, the incredible coaching staff, and the thousands of fans who vehemently and intentionally supported women’s soccer this week.

Our future is bright.
