Vermont Green FC crossed Lake Champlain to take on Black Rock FC Wednesday in Lake Placid, NY and despite controlling the majority of the game, left the Adirondacks empty handed.
Adam Pfeifer’s men came out of the gate applying pressure to the hosts early and often. The attacking core — fronted by Diba Nwegbo, Charlie Adams, Owen O’Malley, and Rodrigo Ferreira — kept the ball in the opponents half, but the final product was stifled. The Green’s best chance of the first half came in the 12th minute, when Alfredo Bozalongo’s corner kick met Ferreira’s head, thundering off the crossbar and out of play.
Early in the second half, Black Rock FC took the lead on the counter, a lead they would protect to the final whistle. Despite the best efforts of the Vermont offense, the Boys in Green were unable to find the back of the net in a contentious second half.
Next up, the Vermonters travel to Albany, NY to take on Blackwatch Rush in need of 3 points. Wednesday’s result in Lake Placid may have thrown a small wrench into the Green’s playoff plans, but they remain very much in the hunt with three matches remaining in the regular season.
Vermont Green FC return home on Wednesday, July 13th at 7pm for “Labor Night” when the club will host local labor unions, members, and organizers for a night of soccer and celebration of the workers that make our communities run. Tickets are still available. Let’s Go Green!
