One of New England’s amateur-league darlings will make their first ever trip to the Green Mountain State on Tuesday night to face a surging Vermont Green FC in a non-league match. The Rhode Islanders will have a point to prove, and may look to players with experience playing at Virtue Field to attempt to upset the hosts.

PROVIDENCE CITY IN FOCUS

Providence City FC was founded in 2015 to build community in Rhode Island’s biggest city. The club competes in the Bay State Soccer League and the Ocean State Soccer League of Massachusetts and Rhode Island respectively. The “Rogues” have been a fixture in their local competitions, but have also attracted a national and international spotlight for their creative, principled approach to their visual identity, match kits, and how these themes can be a spearhead for building community in the game.

The Rogues lifted the MA Werner Fricker Cup in 2025, and recently played a competitive match at Centreville Bank Stadium, Pawtucket’s brand new soccer specific stadium for Rhode Island FC.

Proudly featuring Rhode Island and Massachusetts talent in the team, the Rogues could visit Vermont with local players who know a thing or two about the Green Mountain State. Nate Silveira, Justin Freitas, and Geo Alves–all University of Vermont alum–have featured for the Rogues in recent seasons. It’s not yet known if they will make the trip, but a homecoming would be a welcome surprise for the Virtue Field faithful.

Nate Silveira—now with Providence City FC—was Vermont Green FC club captain during the inaugural season in 2022.

Silveira, Vermont Green FC’s first ever club captain, started 10 matches and kept three clean sheets during the 2022 season. He went on to sign pro contracts with MLS Next Pro’s Crown Legacy FC and USL’s Rhode Island FC.

VERMONT GREEN DEPTH

Vermont Green FC Head Coach Chris Taylor has said he’s thrilled with the way his squad is shaping up, and even with less than two weeks of training, he feels equipped to build matchday rosters that match the strengths and weaknesses of opponents. With the Maple Cup victory on Saturday, and a titanic Twin State Derby looming next weekend, Taylor could still be tinkering with his options–but the first year gaffer feels every player in his camp is ready to make an impact.
