The Home Opener is finally here for Vermont Green FC! The Boys in Green will host Pathfinder FC on Saturday, May 25th at 2pm at Virtue Field. After collecting all 6 points from the first two matches, scoring 5 goals and conceding 0, Vermont Green FC will attempt to solidify their early season form in front of a packed crowd at Virtue Field.
HISTORY
The 2024 Home Opener will be only the third time Vermont Green FC and Pathfinder FC have met. The club from Pleasant Valley, NY suffered an 8-0 defeat at Virtue Field in 2022, the largest ever victory for the Green. In 2023, Pathfinder took some revenge, drawing 1-1 in New York when Vermont were in a must-win scenario.
LOS LOBOS IN FOCUS
Pathfinder FC are coming off an impressive 2023 campaign that saw them finish fourth in the league behind the usual suspects Seacoast United Phantoms, Western Mass Pioneers, and Vermont Green. Collecting 19 points, Los Lobos proved a difficult opponent for the contenders. The 2024 season isn’t off to the best start, however. Los Lobos dropped their opener to Western Mass 4-0 last week. If the New Yorkers can tap into their last year’s form, they could pose a threat to the Green.
BAZINI RETURNS, CASTRO ARRIVES
Adam Pfeifer has a pair of early-season reinforcements available for selection this weekend that could provide an extra spark for the Green. After missing the opening match in Boston, Yaniv Bazini came off the bench in the second half against Black Rock FC on Wednesday, scoring his first goal of the season in the 83rd minute. The manager could also choose to include Creighton midfielder Jackson Castro, who has yet to debut for the club after missing the opening two matches due to a Creighton tour of Spain. The Texas native has the ability to diversify the attacking options, and has been known to wreak havoc through the middle of the park, or out wide.
THE VIRTUE FIELD FAITHFUL
From big moments in the league, to the recent dream-like U.S. Open Cup appearances, Vermont Green FC have now become known across the nation for their secret weapon: the cathedral that is Virtue Field. Despite the busy Memorial Day calendar, a big crowd is expected on Saturday to welcome the boys back to Paradise. With the voice of Vermont bellowing from Virtue, anything is possible.
