Vermont Green FC will kick-off the 2025 USL League Two season on Sunday as the boys head down I-89 to Malden, MA to take on Boston City FC. The match is set for 6:00pm at Malden Catholic High School. Boston City have communicated that they intend to live stream the match on SportsEngine Play. Please note that Boston City’s streams have been very unreliable in the past.

HISTORY

Both on the road and at home, the Vermonters have historically fared well against the Bostonians, boasting a perfect 6-0-0 record over three seasons, outscoring the Lions 27-2. This is the second season in a row the Green will open the season away at Boston City FC.

CITY IN FOCUS

Boston City FC were founded in 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts and have competed in various leagues since their foundation. They ultimately joined USL League Two in 2022, the same season the Green joined the league. The club has a counterpart in Manhuaçu, Minas Gerais, Brazil that is also named Boston City FC. The Brazilian club competes at the professional and youth level.

Boston City FC finished 8th in the Northeast Division in 2024, but the club has an ability to be dangerous. They enjoy a unique player pipeline with both local and Brazilian talent, making their roster difficult to scout and their style of play unpredictable before the season opener.

Boston City FC opened their 2025 campaign on Thursday, losing 9-0 at home to Western Mass Pioneers.

With just seven returning players, there are plenty of new faces in the squad this season.

NEW LOOK GREEN

The Green begin the new campaign with just seven returning players: Moussa Ndiaye, Zach Zengue, Ayoub Lajhar, Mohammed Ibrahim, Jacob Labovitz, Owen O’Malley, and Pearse O’Brien. What the club may be missing in continuity, they make up for with what Head Coach Chris Taylor has called “unprecedented talent” on the 2025 roster. The Green will need to lean on that talent, with only five training sessions under their belt prior to Sunday’s season opener.

THE CAPTAINS

All eyes will be on club captains Moussa Ndiaye and Zach Zengue to lead the charge in Boston. The two three-year players have more matches with the Green under their belt than the rest of the roster combined. In the high-pressure sprint of USL League Two, leadership is paramount. Look to the captains to steer the ship.
