After opening the season on Sunday in Boston with a 2-0 win against Boston City, the Green will head back to the Commonwealth on Wednesday for a clash with Boston Bolts. The match is set for 6:00pm at Brandeis University. The hosts have communicated that they intend to live stream the match on SportsEngine Play.

HISTORY

Vermont Green FC and Boston Bolts have played four times prior to Wednesday’s meeting, and due to imbalanced scheduling in the Northeast Division and a cancelled match in 2024, this will be the first meeting between the two clubs since the 2023 season. In four meetings, Vermont has come away winners in three, while one ended in a draw.

In 2022, Vermont Green beat the Boston Bolts 2-0 at Virtue Field.

BOLTS IN FOCUS

Boston Bolts were founded in 1986 and are one of the oldest soccer clubs in Massachusetts. They have become a regular producer of talent in the northeast and have competed towards the top of the table for most of their time in USL League Two.

Boston Bolts most notably developed Miles Robinson of Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati and the United States Men’s National team, as well as New England Revolution legend Shalrie Joseph.

In 2024, the Bolts maintained a strong run of form in a division that’s headlines are often dominated by the top three clubs. They finished the season 6-3-3 on 21 points, only 8 behind Vermont Green.

Wednesday’s match will be the Bolts season opener, so with no current film for Chris Taylor’s staff to analyze, the Green will have to play their game and trust their form to get a result in Massachusetts.

STARS SHINE, REINFORCEMENTS ARRIVE

Fans got a first glimpse of Vermont Green FC against Boston City on Sunday, and can expect a similar approach to the midweek match. Despite taking a patient approach, it was clear the Vermonters are equipped to cause problems for any backline in USL League Two. The starting front line of Tyler Trimnal, Zach Zengue, Enzo Dovlo, and Mo Ibrahim were a handful up until the opening goal. After the opener, the fresh legs of Arnaud Tattevin, Marcel Papp, David Ajagbe, and Stephane Njike showed that there was no dip in quality when the gaffer looks to his bench.

More players are set to arrive this week that could feature on Wednesday, including Vancouver Whitecaps product and Wake Forest right-back Amoni Thomas. Thomas has been lauded by the Vermont Green FC coaching staff as a potential high-impact player. Whether he makes his debut or not could depend on what happens in training, but fans should keep an eye out for the dynamic outside back in the coming weeks.
