Vermont Green Football Club announced today that Chris Taylor has been promoted to Head Coach ahead of the 2025 USL League Two season. The Liverpool-native and current Head Coach of SUNY Plattsburgh Men’s Soccer program has served as Assistant Coach since Vermont Green FC’s inaugural season in 2022. Adam Pfeifer—Head Coach and Sporting Director for three seasons from 2022 to 2024—will continue his duties as Sporting Director.

“I am deeply honored to be named as the next Head Coach of Vermont Green FC,” Taylor said. “Joining the club in 2022 was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I am excited for this next step. Following Adam is a big task, but his support and that of the club will make this transition work. I am grateful to Adam for not only bringing me in, but trusting me from day one with numerous responsibilities. I am determined to help the club succeed and give our fans another great summer.”

Chris Taylor and Adam Pfeifer have both been with the club since its inaugural season in 2022.

In addition to three highly successful seasons with the Green, Taylor brings a wealth of experience as both a player and coach. Starting his journey in the Liverpool FC Academy, he went on to play for the youth teams of Wrexham AFC, Tranmere Rovers FC, and Accrington Stanley FC. Taylor propelled his experiences at the youth level in England into an American adventure: first as a Player Development Officer with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer, and later in college soccer, where he excelled as a player and eventually a coach.

Chris Taylor landed at Plattsburgh State in 2007, earning All-East Region recognition in 2009 and 2010 and All-SUNYAC accolades in all four seasons, including First Team honors in three seasons from 2008-10. The Liverpudlian is still the all-time leader in assists for the Cardinals with 38, to go along with 21 total goals. He led the Cardinals to a SUNYAC championship in his senior season.

After his playing career, Taylor served as an Assistant Coach at Plattsburgh State for two years, then as an Assistant at Vassar College. In 2014 he was named Head Coach at Clarkson University where he served for four years. In 2018, he returned to his alma mater to take over as Head Coach. In 2024, his Plattsburgh side finished 11-2-5, bringing Taylor’s all-time record to 51-37-18 as the Cardinals gaffer.

In 2022, Adam Pfeifer named Chris Taylor his first assistant coach.

With the staff realignment, Pfeifer—who, for the last three seasons was both Head Coach and Sporting Director—will now prioritize recruitment, team building, and the expansion of the club’s sporting goals. Pfeifer finishes his tenure as Head Coach with a record of 39-11-4 in all competitions. Taylor will now step into the day-to-day role of leading and managing the team during the season.

“Chris Taylor has been with us from day one. He has our complete trust, and we’re very happy to be able to promote from within our organization for this role,” said Adam Pfeifer, Vermont Green FC Sporting Director. “Fans will continue to see the same entertaining, high-energy possession based style of play and we’ll all be working to build on the foundation of the first three seasons and keep pushing ourselves further. Chris is one of the best coaches and soccer people I have been around.”

Taylor holds a UEFA B License and is currently enrolled to earn a UEFA A License.
