Ahead of Vermont Green FC’s inaugural USL W League campaign, Head Coach Abby Carchio has announced her staff for her first season at the helm. Carchio has appointed Caitlyn Fogel, Rory Twomey, and Edgar Vargas as assistant coaches. Kat Paradis will be the team’s athletic trainer, supported by Hannah Tremel and Dr. J.P. Begly.

Milton, VT-native and Saint Michael’s College women’s soccer assistant coach Caitlyn Fogel joins the club as assistant coach. Fogel is the Director of Operations at Nordic Soccer Club, where she has worked since 2021. She was named the Vermont Soccer Coaches Association Large School Coach of the Year and Lake Division Coach of the Year for winning back-to-back Division II state titles as head coach of Milton High School, her alma mater. She played college soccer at The College of Saint Rose, where she recorded 19 goals and six assists in 82 matches. In 2019, she helped the Golden Knights advance to the NCAA Division II Final Four.

Rory Twomey will also serve as an assistant on Carchio’s staff. Currently an assistant with the University of Vermont men’s team—where he has coached two stints since 2020—Twomey brings a wealth of experience as a player, coach, and member of the Vermont soccer community. Before UVM, he served as an assistant coach at Saint Lawrence University, and was an All-GNAC First Team honoree during his senior season at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.

Former University of Vermont and San Diego State goalkeeper Edgar Vargas will join Carchio’s staff as goalkeeper coach. A native of Yakima, Washington, Vargas was a goalkeeper at UVM from 2019-2023 and part of the Vermont Green men’s squad in 2023. He will bring valuable playing experience to his first coaching position.

Kat Paradis will be the women’s team athletic trainer. Paradis works for the University of Vermont, primarily with the swim and dive team. Prior to UVM, she was an athletic trainer for five years at Saint Michael’s College, where she worked with multiple sports teams including men’s and women’s soccer. Paradis has a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from the UVM and a Master of Science in Athletic Training from California University of Pennsylvania.
“I’m excited to bring in a staff rich in passion and experience for this inaugural USLW season. Cait, Rory, and Edgar all have a deep connection to football in Vermont and it was essential for me to bring in that local understanding. They all possess the knowledge, empathy and competitiveness to positively develop our players and cultivate diversity of thought within the staff,” said Carchio.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will be supported by Dr. J.P. Begly, MD. Begly has been a dedicated volunteer for Vermont Green since the inaugural season in 2022, lending his expertise to assess and treat injuries while sharing sports medicine insights and guidance on preventive care. Begly practices orthopedics and sports medicine at Central Vermont Medical Center, a member of the University of Vermont Health Network, from offices in Waterbury Center and Berlin.
