Dear Vermont Green FC fans,

We are National Champions. Not just the players and staff. Everyone in this ever-growing community.

This summer exceeded our wildest dreams. It was the collective effort of our club and the indomitable spirit of Vermonters that brought us to this place. Alone at the top, unbeaten, victorious

“Thank you” feels so insufficient, but we’ll keep saying it as long as we have breath.

Now that we’ve had a moment to mentally and spiritually unpack this season—and also to literally pack up everything that we physically need to operate this club—we want to reflect on our gratitude with you all, and hopefully answer some of your questions about next season.

When the club was conceptualized in 2020, and then brought to life in 2022, we had aspirations of becoming one of the top clubs in the country. We saw an opportunity to build upon Vermont’s well-established soccer community, and cultivate a culture of compassionate and collaborative soccer fans. We wanted to build a club that reflected the values and concerns of everyday Vermonters. We had an idea—and a dream—but reality has far exceeded what we could have possibly imagined. We are now living that dream with you, and we will never take it for granted.

Vermonters have proven that pound-for-pound we can compete with the very best. That our pride in our Brave Little State, commitment to our values, and love for our neighbors can not only set us apart, but can spring us ahead. The Green Mountain State can always be counted on to punch above its weight, and right now, this community is leading a new type of American soccer revolution.

In the ecosystem of American soccer, where “markets” are often considered before the people who inhabit them, and the viability of a football club is based on projections from investors, Burlington has shown a different path. Vermonters have supported their local club with an irreverence to division and have highlighted a community-focused passion for soccer outside of the major leagues. This concept is crucial to the growth of the game everywhere, not just cities deemed “big enough”.

We estimate over 5,000 fans were on hand to witness the 2025 USL League Two Final at Virtue Field. Had we had the seats, we likely could have had 15,000 fans or more.

The club going unbeaten across 24 matches in 2025 was no accident. We believe we had the most talented players in the country. But going unbeaten is a special feat that even the greatest teams may not achieve. The way Vermonters showered our players with love and support—both in the stadium and in the community—was the secret weapon for this title run. Head Coach Chris Taylor put it succinctly: nodding towards a packed Virtue Field, he said “this is what sets us apart.”

But perhaps the thing we’re most proud of is this: Vermont soccer fans are proving that our values do not have to be checked at the door when we enjoy our local sports teams.

Fans have proven that climate-consciousness, anti-racism, environmental stewardship, and community organizing are not taboo topics to be avoided in such public domains as stadiums. In fact, the enthusiasm and energy of a stadium is an incredible medium for action. Fans have not only been open to this concept, they’ve recognized the limits to which a small-business like ours can go, and carried the flag even further. Building a club with locally-informed values as our north star is not only the right thing to do, it’s a key to our success.

Vermont Green FC was once just a seedling. The people of Vermont are the rich soil from which it blossomed. We are so grateful, and we know that this is only the beginning of the Vermont Green FC story.

…so what now?

We have a ton of work to do.

This letter is primarily our thank you note, but we also want to get ahead of some of the big questions. We’ll do our best!

When does the 2026 season begin?

By winning USL League Two, we have qualified for the US Open Cup. The tournament will likely kick off in March. We don’t know whether or not we’ll host Round 1, or who our opponent will be.

Will we add more seats at Virtue Field?

Our honest answer to this question is: we sure hope so. It’s our top priority.

But it won’t be easy. Bleachers are expensive and space to put them is very limited. We have begun the conversation with the University of Vermont (who, by the way, have sold over 1,400 season tickets for their men’s soccer program!) to see if we can expand seating at Virtue Field.

When will 2026 Season Tickets become available?

We need a few more weeks to evaluate how Season Tickets will look in 2026, and we will provide more information by the end of September. For now, please know that 2025 Season Ticket holders will be given the opportunity to renew. We anticipate that the renewal rate will be very high.

How do we keep supporting the Green?

Our Boys in Green celebrated their USL League Two championship on Saturday night, and many of them departed Burlington early on Sunday to get back to their college training camps. One thing that’s special about this club is: once a green, always a green. We’ve found it’s a joy to follow our players during their college seasons, as well as those who have made the jump to the professional ranks.

We urge fans to keep supporting the players on social media, and tune in to some college matches this fall. Most NCAA Division 1 games are on ESPN+.

Local fans can catch current and former VGFC players in action with the University of Vermont and Middlebury College’s men’s and women’s teams this fall.

How do we stay involved?

What does it mean to be Vermont Green? It’s not just about soccer, so we hope you will keep the club’s ethos active through the offseason.

We highly recommend you check out Vermont Green FC’s independent supporters group–the Green Mountain Bhoys–to take a more active role in forming the culture around this club. The best in New England, the best in the world.

Our supporters not only brought the noise and the love all season long, they took some incredibly important causes into their own hands. In July and August alone, the GMB raised $25,107 for Migrant Justice and the Vermont Immigration Legal Defense Fund, both working to protect asylum seekers, immigrants, and marginalized people facing deportation or detention. Now, even after the season has ended, the group has organized the ongoing Posters for Palestine campaign through August. 100% of the proceeds from the campaign will be donated to Medical Aid for Palestinians, working to address the injustices caused by occupation, displacement and conflict in Palestine.

We worked with many incredible organizations this season, and will continue compiling our work into our annual Environmental Justice Mission Report. In the meantime, you can re-read our 2024 Environmental Justice Mission Report and consider supporting some of the incredible non-profits we’ve the pleasure of partnering with.

Will there be a parade?

While a parade for our team up Church Street would be a dream, unfortunately most of our players are no longer in Vermont, and those who are, are focused on their fall collegiate seasons. We’re thinking of other ways to commemorate this incredible 2025 campaign, and we’re always open to your ideas. We plan to tour the USL League Two trophy around the state this offseason, so keep an eye out for it!

How can we give additional feedback?

Your feedback is always welcome. We urge fans who attended games to fill out this matchday survey. You can also reach us at [email protected]. We’ll do our best to get back to you.

UTG. We’ll see you soon.
