Vermont Green FC will take on Southern Conference Champions Dothan United on Sunday night for a spot in the 2025 USL League Two Final. The Green—and the incredible community behind them—have another opportunity to continue this dream season.
HISTORY
Vermont Green FC and the Alabama-based Dothan United will meet for the first time on Sunday. It will be the first time the Green play a competitive match against a club from another conference.
DOTHAN UNITED IN FOCUS
Dothan United Soccer Club was founded in 2023 and are competing in their second USL League Two season in the South Central Division.
The Dragons finished second in their division this year with a 10W-2L-0D record, finishing only behind southern powerhouse Asheville City. They’re in the middle of an historic playoff run, mostly recently defeating the soon-to-be USL League One side Fort Lauderdale United to claim the Southern Conference Championship.
The Alabamians have built a vibrant soccer community in just two seasons, and have seen crowds of nearly 5,000 fans this season.
DIEGO THE DEDICATED
Many players have given their all to the club throughout this dream campaign. Goal scorers, creators, hard nose defenders, speedsters, netminding giants, and hype men are easy to love.
But Vermonters should not overlook one player who does a little bit of everything, and who is always ready for the task: Diego Rived. The Spanish midfielder has made much of his impact off the bench this season, often being used for his defensive prowess and vision to shut down matches and protect leads. On Friday, Chris Taylor called upon number 16 to start in the biggest match of the season, and he did not disappoint.
Sturdy on the ground, calm on the ball, and sneakily effective in the air, the Boston University standout has proven he’ll do whatever the gaffer asks of him. If he’s called upon again, fans can be assured that he will be up for the occasion.
